We have definitely been blessed around here lately with regards to the weather. Most days are in the 60’s or 70’s and just the right amount of rain. The trees have absolutely exploded, but then so have allergies 🙁 . It was a great weekend for a wedding reception. Our good friends Rob and Alma were married last March in Alma’s home country, Mexico and this weekend they arranged a reception for their Canadian friends and family! Some of Alma’s family was able to make the journey which was awesome, so good to meet them! The reception was held in an old church that has been turned into an event centre and it was beautiful.
A rare photo of my mother-in-law! My sister-in-law convinced her and I’m so glad she did, it’s a great shot. My parents were there as well…
see how nice my dad looks…that’s the before shot…here’s the after…
yep…that’s my dad! At any rate, it was a great evening and we couldn’t be happier for Rob and Alma <3 .
Sunday we set out for our last long run before the Flying Pig Half Marathon in a couple weeks. This is the first time that we’ve had two races in the same training cycle and it’s been a real learning experience for all of us. As much as Bryan and I can confidently refer to ourselves as runners, we are very aware of our limitations. We are by no means elite athletes and we’re not trying to be. After the CF Rock half we really needed a little down time. We pushed ourselves hard that day and were thrilled with our results but we just don’t have the time, or frankly the energy, to maintain that level of training all of the time and we’re ok with that. In light of this revelation, we’ve decided to make this next race a fun race and make it more about a fun getaway and not worry about time. That being said we still need to stick to a bit of a schedule so we’ve been making sure to get in a long run every weekend, do a couple of 4-6 mile runs during the week and hit our bootcamp. This week we decided 11 miles sounded right so off we went. I don’t know if this ever happens to you but sometimes certain running routes, while the same distance as others, just feel shorter. I know it’s weird, but sometimes that helps me get through a workout that seems daunting. I decided a run along the riverfront was the way to go so off we went. Check out this cool rock tower someone built…
I was so impressed! Remember my last post when I talked about running in the heat? One thing I forgot from this time last year is that it can take a few runs before your body is actually used to the change in temperature so don’t get discouraged if you’re still feeling wiped on warm weather runs. It wasn’t pretty, but we made it and after a quick shower and a trip to the grocery store (why do I feel like I live there some weeks?) the couch was mine!
Well my friends, time to get ready for another week. I hope yours is a good one!
