It felt good to get back into our routine last week. After the CF half two weekends ago, we had taken it easy for a week or so to recuperate. Last Sunday we brought a new friend along on our long run. She’s a runner trying to get back into it after having her kids and she’s also new to the area and wanted to see some of the good running routes near her house. We took her out for a 4.5 mile run and she did great, in fact I think she’s going to start joining us more often! On Monday, Bryan and I went off to bootcamp and our trainer did not disappoint. He likes to warm us up with a game every week before we get into our circuit of exercises and this time he introduced us to squat tag. If it sounds awful, that’s because it is! You play like regular tag except everyone has to stay in squat while trying to get away from “it”. If you get tagged you have to do 5 squat jumps! My quads were burning but I loved it! It’s a great way to get to know everyone else in the class.
Wednesday, Chris and I got in a 6 miler after work and it felt great. I used to get really uptight about sticking to my schedule, which would have had me running more than 6 that day, but I’m really trying to listen to my body more closely and my body was feeling great with 6! In fact, Thursday the temperature took a dive and we had snow so we ended up skipping our normal hill routine and I felt ok with that too. I think it’s important, every once in a while, to take little breaks. I equate it to having a treat. I make sure that I eat well for most of the week and then if I feel like a treat I don’t worry about it. I think the same can be true for exercise…if you workout regularly most of the time, it’s ok to take an extra rest day when you need it. If you push your self too hard you may injure yourself and then you won’t be able to workout at all, trust me I’ve been there…more than once:( .
Yesterday the three of us went out for an 8 miler. It was such a beautiful day so we ran along the riverfront. It was so nice to see people out and about again. Kids on bikes and scooters, dogs out for walks and every playground was packed. You can’t tell from the picture because the park slopes towards the water, but there were lots of folks out enjoying the view. The 8 miles felt good. We kept the pace nice and easy, around a 10 minutes/mile. With Easter coming up this weekend I’m hoping to get the bikes out of the garage and go out for a spin with the family. Have a great day everybody!
What was your favourite childhood game to play?
Favourite Easter candy? For me it’s a toss up between jellybeans and the chocolate bunnies with the rice crips in them.
