For my birthday last month, my awesome husband arranged a trip for us to Montreal for over the March Break. We set out for the airport early Monday morning (so early that I’m not sure that the kids even managed to open one eye when we went into their rooms to say goodbye). Flying is not my favourite but the two flights it took to get there were under an hour each so it was okay. *Mental note for next time: eat more than just a banana before air travel 🙁 . We touched down in Montreal just before 10a.m. so we basically had the whole day to explore. First things first, we had to get to the hotel.
Our hotel was called Place d’Armes and it was in Old Town Montreal. It was a series of 3 beautiful old buildings and it was situated right across from Notre Dame Basilica which is absolutely gorgeous.
This is absolutely a must see if you ever visit Montreal. The architecture is phenomenal. Look at those windows! After Notre Dame we wandered around Old Town for a few hours just browsing and taking in the sites. We ended up eating at a little fish and chips place called Brit and Chips. It was highly rated online so we thought we’d check it out.
Bryan tried the cod with a burgundy batter and I had the halibut which had a maple syrup batter. You’d think the syrup would make the fish sweet but it didn’t, it just gave it a lovely creaminess.
After dinner, since it was my birthday trip, I decided we needed to go for pastries! We ended up a a place down by the water called Maison Christian Faure….
Need I say more? Everything looked so good it was hard to choose. Bryan settled on a lemon cream tart and I had a piece of chocolate and raspberry yumminess. Good thing we did a lot of walking that day! After dessert we did a little more browsing and then headed back to the room to turn in early. On our walk back we came upon this beautiful tree. It seems there are a few of them scattered around the city. So pretty.
Stay tuned for Montreal Part 2: hockey and a blizzard!
Where is the last city you visited?
Do you like to fly?

Oh SO fun! This looks fabulous! I love that he planned the trip for you. Everything looks so beautiful!
One thing I love about you is that you are very health-conscious and you value exercise and being fit…but you also like to splurge once in a while on things like maple syrup batter. I feel like it’s so much more do-able when you can have a little treat now and then 🙂

Aww thanks Shauna! I absolutely have to have treats! I try not to go crazy but I figure if I make decent choices most of the time then I can splurge when I find something like maple batter.
