This picture cracks me up. We just couldn’t seem to find the right angle for the pic so we settled on “sun in the eyes”. Bryan’s face is my favourite 😉 . We had 10 miles on the docket today and after last week’s “Bertha Bonanza”, we opted for a nice, flat, out and back route. We headed towards the riverfront and turned around when we hit 5 miles.
We were joking with Chris that she looked like a cat burglar in her “all black” ensemble;) .
I love our waterfront, so beautiful. You can literally run along the water for miles.
There are quite a few cool art pieces on display along the way and this one caught out attention while we were refuelling at the turn-around. This is why I love those guys…a little goofy:D .
Once our runs pass 6 miles we start bringing along a sports drink or water and either a gel, homemade energy balls, even candy works in a pinch. I decided on peanut butter and date energy balls and homemade citrus sports drink from fannetasticfood.com. I absolutely love this drink on a long run. Very refreshing and doesn’t have that artificial taste that some store bought drinks have. We stop about every 3 miles or so for a quick drink or bite and we’re off again. Your muscles need quick-to-digest carbs to get you through those long miles and I prefer to fuel every couple of miles so that the carb stores in my body don’t get too low. I feel like that’s better than trying to play catch-up later on in the run. I felt really good during this run and even had enough in the tank to sprint the last quarter mile or so! I averaged 9:41/mile overall which was actually a little faster than I was planning on for the day.
After cleaning up, the whole family headed over to my mother-in-law’s for supper. Let me tell you, she is a force to be reckoned with in the dinner department. As you can see from the photo above, she makes quite a lot of food! There were 3 different main dishes plus 4 hot sides and 2 salads. As if that weren’t enough, there were donuts for dessert! Yum!! Let me put this further into perspective, there were only 7 of us there. I know!! Not a bad way to relax after a 10 miler though I gotta say 😉 . Have a great week everybody!
Favourite donut?
What’s the weather like where you are?
